A few weeks ago Brian posted I'm Gonna Soothe You from Maria McKee's second album over at Linear Tracking Lives and his revelation that that album was the only one that he had by McKee prompted a few comments pointing him to various other high points in the singer's repertoire as a solo artist and also with her previous band Lone Justice. All this discussion brought back memories of a collaboration in the early nineties with Youth and Throb from Primal Scream, sending me on a quest to the cupboard of lost indie twelves. After a bit of searching and a good clean I put it on. It hasn't dated all that well although McKee's voice and Young's guitar are great, it's mainly the production very 1992 and reminded me of Zoe's Sunshine On A Rainy Day also produced by Youth a couple of years prior to Sweetest Child. On the flip there is a really horrible "Celtic Moon mix" which is best avoided. Probably not in anybody's Top Ten Maria McKee recordings but not too bad. I think I remember reading somewhere that she was living in either the UK or Ireland when this recording was made.

Well I have to say that I have absolutely no memory of this one from, ahem, back in the day and I really enjoyed it a great deal. Perhaps the production is a tad of its time, but I've heard much much worse. A terrific vocal from Maria. I need to get a hold of a copy of this. Is there a 7" version on the 12"? The guitar wig-out is good, but perhaps not required every time I listen to it.

No shortened version on the 12" but the 7" or cd single can be purchased for buttons on Discogs
I have no recollection of this either Drew. As The Swede says, what a great vocal from Maria. Very much of its time but not bad at all...
Drew, You've Got to Sin to Get Saved no longer sits alone on the shelf. I got Life Is Sweet right after that post about I'm Gonna Soothe You. Your choice today seems to be obscure and well received from the peanut gallery. Sounds good to these ears too. Thanks for furthering my education on this talented musician.
Well I've never heard that before. And I shall definitely be listening to it again.
It's a one-off. It was on the greatest hits (!!) album that came out early 2000s. I had it on a promo back then, the vocal is great, the song is ok. Not her best.
