So Many Days

Bloody hell, that was a quick week!

Back to the daily grind for me and I can't think of a better way to start than with this track,  a recent discovery. I'm not sure whether this should be classed as soul, R & B or whatever other catagory it may fall into. It is a brilliant track which should brighten up your Monday morning.

I know absolutely nothing about the Vonns. This track was on a split 7", released recently on Fryers, with another belter of a track,  Sad But True by Elaine Armstrong on the A side. Worth seeking out.

Song For A Secret

Since the acrimonious split which started in 1998 (but had been on the cards since1984) when William Reid walked off during a sold out show at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles and which was made official at the end of 1999, the output of the Reid Brothers has been patchy to say the least.

Both have pursued mediocre solo careers and produced (separately) the Sister Vanilla album Little Pop Rock, Sister Vanilla being another member of the Reid clan, their younger sister Linda.

Jim Reid released his first solo single Song For A Secret backed with Can't Stop The Rock credited to Sister Vanilla and produced by William, in 2005 on the Transistor label .

The sound of the single is nothing radically different from what could be found on later day Jesus and The Mary Chain albums, it would fit nicely on Stoned And Dethroned.

I quite like the track and it is not a bad way to start off a Monday morning.

Why, oh why did they have to invite that stupid bint of an actress to murder one of my all time favourite songs? It was bad enough that they decided to re-form.

It was inevitable, I have tried to resist but have succumbed to posting about my favourite band, the band or rather lead singer, gang master, team manager, whatever who makes my wife's blood boil and my friends all shake their heads and look at me with pitying expressions.

There is absolutely no reason to do a post on the Fall other than being completely selfish. You, will be in one of 2 camps you will either love the Fall, in which case this post is pointless as you will already own this track and at least 30 of the 90 odd releases, or you will hate them and will not have read any further than the first sentence of this paragraph. One of the things I love about them is that there is no sitting on the fence, I can't recall anybody saying "yeah the Fall, they're alright".

By the time you have read this I will already have driven to Edinburgh for one of my infrequent appearances at my company's office. I will have struggled to get up at 6am, after what can only be described as a rather uplifting weekend. The Edwyn Collins gig on Friday night and the rest of the weekend spent doing absolutely nothing, just lounging about with the better half and the boys (that still sounds strange, boys plural).

On the 40 odd minute drive, a lot longer if left any later, what better than a piece of M.E.S. genius to get another week of to a pounding start.
