Not Everthing Goth was Pish

I may have mentioned once or twice on these pages my utter contempt for Goths and all that woes me moping about that they did. I will however admit that there were one or two decent records released that were tagged as being Goth, the one posted today is probably the best in my opinion. I was never really a big fan of Bauhaus, I did by the second and third albums but never really got them.

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead

Yep. I'm with you all the way on this one. 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' is so good that it transcends genre. Epic.

Yes, a brilliant record. By far and away the best thing I've heard by them. I always thought Bauhaus were a bit crap, really. As for yesterday's track, Drew, very very very good indeed. Very good.

I'll gladly admit to an interest in "Positive Punk" and Goth, especially those foundation bands like Bauhaus, Banshees, then Southern Death Cult, Theater of Hate and others. Yes it got repetitive, became more of a scene than a sound, but taking the dark side of Post Punk and injecting psychedelia and blues did make for some interesting music.
I love Bauhaus start to finish and most of Peter Murphy's solo career, but it was certainly a scene that crawled up its own dark places by the late 80's and spawned horrible acts like Korn as its progeny.

Hi Drew, yes a great song, which sounded like nothing else at the time, and I just want to echo what Echorich says (no pun intended). The bands you mention, Echorich, such as Southern Death Cult and Theatre of Hate, also Sex Gang Children, seemed to follow on effortlessly from punk and post-punk, and at the time it didn't feel as if it was the moping naval-gazing pretending-to-be-a-vampire genre that we associate with goth now, did it? It was an odd, eclectic mix. I liked the sort of tribal sounds and imagery, DIY clothes and stuff, yeah yeah I *did* wear a necklace made from chicken bones... it was brief!

Great song, Drew and always worth to play it again. You're not to be a big fan of this dark kind of music but this song determines the feeling of a generation. This song shuffled up a few times during the last weeks on my player and I was always glad to hear it again.

@ C: I would realy like to see a picture from you wearing your chicken bone necklace -
