Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin would have been seventy today, if she had lived but let's face it there wasn't much chance that she would have made thirty never mind the big seven O, sadly.

When we are on the subject of rock legends, could somebody tell me what all the fuss is over this Bowie track? Piece of sentimental, winsome pish which would have been ignored if it was any lesser mortal.

Janis Joplin - Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)

Well I think Janis Joplin's amazing. Haven't heard the Bowie track yet, in no rush.

You're absolutely correct. Bowie track is dreary dreary drivel. Or pish, as you so charmingly, and accurately put it. Never been terribly impressed with Janis Joplin though.

Like the new Bowie single, his introspective stuff always has a deep feeling of melancholy which will get me every time. Always been a Bowie fan so predictable maybe.

Sounds pretty good for his age I think compared to some I could mention (could somebody shoot Macca please). A trip down memory lane for him it seems. The proposed album cover prompted me to listen to Heroes - strangely, an album of his I have only owned since picking it up at a booter last year. That sounded good too.

Can't be doing with Janis I'm afraid.

Drew - did you snipe any good soul on your ebay trawl? I've been frantically looking but haven't pressed the bid/buy button on anything yet. Seems like some sellers have already applied new rates in anticipation.

Guys i was merely commenting on the Bowie single and all of the ejaculating that has followed it. I was not compairing and contrasting with Janis. I just think it's all a bit emperor's new clothes to me.

Darcy, like you the couple I found had already applied the new rates. I did however bite the bullet at discogs and buy that original copy of Don't Send Nobody Else. The repro I have just isn't the same and I have always said that one day I would buy an original and the fact that the postage will double next week spurrred me on.

In two minds about the Bowie track. It's release did make me go back and re-play Heathen though. I forgot how beautiful Sunday is. Shame on me.

It's also quite winsome, as a tune. But far from pish ;-) When Bowie gets it right he blows me away.
