What's In Yir Box? Q

Paul Quinn and the Independent Group, that's what.

Stupid Thing is just about the most perfect song of longing and loss from the simple piano and cello intro to the almost desperate sounding soaring vocals from Paul Quinn. For a 7" single it is quite long clocking in at over six minutes.  The single was released in 1993 on the reincarnated Postcard label and criminally  failed completely to grab the attention of the record buying public. An inferior, in my opinion, version of the song  was included on the group's second album , Will I Ever Be Inside of You.

Wow. What a song to slip in and out of consciousness to.

Happy 63rd birthday to Suzi Quatro by the way!

I'd also include the Questions - Tuesday Sunshine, from '84.

The Quads - There Must Be Thousands, from '79.

I do like the Quireboys. (If Faces-type bluesy-tinged gravelly dirty rocknroll moistens your middle ear, you should seek them out). Indeed, their album 'A bit Of What You Fancy' was rather big in '90. Remind yerself of singles such as 'Hey You' or 'There She Goes Again'.

It'd be churlish - to my mind anyway - not to include any Queen. I still possess the single 'Keep Yourself Alive' which failed to chart in '73! I must have been proud of it, as I even applied a sturdy home-made cardboard support along with the clear plastic cover.

All I got is Queen...Freddie Mercury singing maybe the most heterosexual song ever written- Fat Bottom Girls. :)

Skuzie Quatro is stuck in the S's for me.

DVD, The Questions Tuesday Sunshine!!! Listened to that just last week!

Meanwhile Drew, that single was the best thing PQ did in that postcard revival period, apart from the 2nd album's title track. Man I love Stupid Thing, it swoons all the way through. Pure class, one of my favourite songs of the 90s

...the Quireboys, always forget about them, used to see them live with Dogs D'Amour late 80s. Infact I saw the Quireboys when they were playing live as The Queerboys, supporting Twenty Flight Rockers back in the mid 80s. It wasn't all Mod and Soul around my house...

I saw the Quireboys again last year Simon. Back on form with a vengeance. Very enjoyable rock n roll!
In fact, a new album (which 'promises a modern sound with old school values') is imminent. As is UK tour. I have lined up Bingley in early August.
They are well worth going out for with invariably that value-for-money does-what-it-says-on-the-tin appeal.

I don't think I've ever heard the Quireboys, always had the impression that they were a cartoon rock band
